Bremshey produce some of the best treadmills available in the UK. The build quality is second to none and the after sales service offered by Bremshey is also excellent. When choosing a treadmill from the Bremshey range, the factors to consider are simple: what programs do you want from your treadmill; do you want an orthopedic running belt; and what speed and incline do you want from your treadmill. Answer these three questions and you'll find a Bremshey treadmill that is suitable for you.
With the range of Bremshey treadmills that we offer take a look at the specification. Typically this will cover the following elements:
Express Delivery Available
We offer a number of treadmills on “Express Delivery” which means that it will be delivered within 3 working days. You can upgrade to Next Day delivery for a small fee.
Console
This describes the features and look of the console. Look out for dot matrix displays which tend give better overall feedback than LED displays. All good treadmills will show speed, incline and program settings.
Dimensions (HxWxL)
These are the dimensions of the treadmill when its in it’s usable position (i.e. deck down). Make sure that you have enough space and remember that it’s always a good idea to leave at least 1m behind the treadmill just in case you loose balance and fall off the back.
Folded Dimensions
Most treadmills aimed at the home market will fold away for storage. It’s better to assume that you’ll be storing the treadmill in the same position as where its to be used – whilst it’s feasible to move the treadmill when it’s in the folded position they are still heavy and cumbersome and it gets a bit tiresome to have to move it before and after use.
Folding
This will tell you whether the treadmill folds or not. As well as the obvious advantage of saving space when not in use, it’s also much easier to keep the floor underneath the treadmill clean and free of dust when it folds.
Heart Rate Control
Treadmills that have heart rate control programs will enable you to train to your own heart rate. You’ll need a compatible chest strap that will communicate with the treadmill but these are relatively inexpensive and some treadmills are supplied with these free of charge.
Incline
When a treadmill inclines the front of the running deck raises to replicate walking up a slope. Most treadmills now have automatic inclines, meaning that the treadmill itself will raise the front of the running deck by the push of a button or via a program.
Machine Weight
There no escaping the fact that most treadmills are heavy. Make sure that you consider where they will be located within your property.
Maximum User Weight
Each treadmill is designed to take a maximum weight of user so check the scales carefully (and honestly!!) before picking which treadmill is most suited to you.
Motor
The treadmill motor is important since it drives the running belt. Look for at least 1.5 horse power (HP) but also consider that the quality of the motor is equally important. The quality of the motor determines the number of revolutions per minute (RPM) – simply put the higher the RPM the harder the motor has to work and the shorter life it will have. It’s not always obvious what the RPM figure is for a treadmill motor but by giving us a call we can advise you which treadmills have the best motors.
Number of Programs
The more programs that a treadmill has the more variety and options you have when using the machine. You’ll find that you pick your favourite 2 or 3 programs and stick to those so don’t get too hung up on whether your treadmill has 10 or 12 programs – in our experience you won’t use them!!
Programs
Look for fat burn, hillclimbs, heart rate control programs (see the description for heart rate control above), user programs and numerous others.
Running Belt
You basically have two choices of running belt. There are normal belts which can be found on most treadmills and orthopaedic running belts which offer more protection if you have problems with ankle and knee joints.
Running Deck Cushioning
Every time that your foot hits the running deck of the treadmill there will be a force that is transmitted through your leg. The cushioning system on the treadmill will control the force and limit the impact on your joints. The more expensive treadmills will have more elaborate ways of effectively managing the cushioning. One thing that is often overlooked is that it might be more cost effective for you to buy a cheaper treadmill and a pair of really good training shoes that will do a similar job to the cushioning system.
Running Deck Size
The size of the running deck is one of the most important considerations when buying a treadmill. Make sure that it’s wide enough and long enough for you to run on. Although this next suggestion sounds a bit like something off ‘Blue Peter’ it’s actually quite effective – cut a piece of card/paper to the size of the running deck of the treadmill and make sure that you can take two good strides from the front to the back. If you can then the length of the deck should be OK for your stride length.
Speed
Lots of people get hung up on how fast the treadmill can go. Be realistic about what you can achieve – most people can’t run at 20km/h (12mph) and don’t need a treadmill that will go that fast.
Warranty
Look for the length of the warranty on the frame and the motor, the number of years that parts and labour are covered and whether the warranty is “return to base”. Most of the better warranties cover in home fixes where an engineer will be sent to your home to repair your treadmill
